I keep hearing two things:
1.) Graphics cards are the most important thing in a PC for gaming and graphics.
2.) Graphics cards are not the most important thing; it’s all how the developers make the game, and the graphics card is just how the graphics are processed.
Which of these statements is true?
Number 1, and also number 2 (but less so since programming methods have improved vastly, it no longer makes a difference)
In short, neither.
The graphics card is the component that renders the image and puts it onscreen. So it would be reasonable to say that a graphics card is a key component in the gaming performance of your PC. But it will not be a useful component if not backed up by the RAM and CPU.
Therefore, the most important thing for PC gaming is everything.
This is like asking which is more important, the car or the driver. Or it’s like asking whether what’s more important is the chef or the ingredients. There’s no answer. They’re both as important as it’s possible to be.
